After which there’s social media. The hashtag #manipulation has 2.6 million posts on Instagram; after I typed ‘narcissist’ into the search bar on Twitter, it had been tweeted 300 instances within the final hour. On TikTok, #gaslighting has a staggering 2.3 billion views, whereas #toxicpeople has 488 million. Usually, this collective behavior of labeling each habits and persona sort on social media is optimistic and, for me, results in useful sense-checking. I’ve generally puzzled whether or not I’m on the receiving finish of subtly problematic habits and have requested a good friend for his or her ideas to allow them to validate what, deep down, I do know to be true. Having them sense-check my suspicions has given me the quiet braveness to take step one in addressing the problem, and I largely have social media to thank for this.
